President Kiir reshuffles undersecretariats and independent commissions, relieves anti-corruption head

(Juba, South Sudan, NSV) - South Sudan President Gen.Salva Kiir Mayardit has today in Juba issued several presidential decrees reshuffling undersecretariats and independentcommissions. Among those relieved is the Chairperson of South Sudan’s Anti-corruption Commission, Dr. Pauline Riak.. Dr. Riak has headed the anti-corruption body since June 2006 and has focussed on building institutional structures and development of financial and administrative management procedures.

Some of the challenges faced by the anti-corruption commission under Riak's leadership include lack of specific laws to prosecute individuals allegedly involved in corrupt practices. Some of the corruption scandals revealed during Riak's time as the head include Dura Scandal and Vehicles Scandal. Those allegedly involved have not been prosecuted so far.

Justice John Gatwich Lul has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the South Sudan Anti-corruption Commission.
